I read a lot of magazines’ websites. Whether I’m doing research for a short story, a Medium article I’m writing, or just trying to knock loose a few new ideas, magazine articles are some of my most relied-upon resources. There’s just one problem with that: magazine subscriptions are expensive.

Even if I subscribed to only a few magazines, those subscriptions would quickly add up. The average cost of online magazine subscriptions is believed to be between $10-$20 per month. I have at least three favorite sites where I often read free articles, but I don’t want to spend $30+ a month just on digital research material. (What can I say?
